as a centre in industry learning to develop human resources to cater to the petroleum and allied energy sectors, improve the knowledge base of policy makers and technologists and provide a competitive edge to leaders for competition in the global arena. It has been promoted with the initiative of Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (GSPC) a Gujarat government undertaking, which is a leader in the energy sector.

India, the nation that was one of the first to discover oil and which in the last couple of decades has become the fastest growing discoverers of fossil energy resources is on the threshold to become one of the largest global markets. Some have anticipated the need for a resource center to keep pace with the fast developing and competitive energy industry, to plan for the future and to continuously build requisite intellectual capital and human resource skills.

Right from the inception, the Government of Gujarat and the GSPC Group have been actively supporting and patronizing the development of the institute. School of Petroleum Management values the necessary regulatory recognitions in our national context and hence has obtained the approval of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of Human Resources- Government of India, New Delhi.

The School of Petroleum Management believes in the recognition of its programme by the petroleum industry because of the "virtue of the distinctiveness and quality of our programme and the prospective graduates".

The GSPC group, being a promoter organization of School of Petroleum Management, has committed the requisite infrastructure, livewire practical-learning environment and intellectual capital to the budding Oil & Gas sector management professionals at the school.

Apart from the full time programme, School of Petroleum Management also plans to offer short-term certificate programme for working executives and other professionals to keep them abreast of the latest managerial and applied developments in the Oil & Gas sector.


The Programme

It offers programmes addressing the managerial requirements of the ENERGY sector as a whole with emphasis on oil & gas sector. The course offerings pertain to Management, Economics, Supply Chain, International Geo-Political affairs, Project Management, Oil & Gas Accounting & Finance and Laws-to mention a few areas, of the oil & gas and ENEGRY sector.

The flagship two-year full time residential programme leading to MBA is organized on the basis of three terms in a year. The programme is focused on energy sector. Accordingly, the entire curriculum is designed to meet the requirement of energy sector . All the courses aim at relevance to the energy segment with inputs of oil and gas segment. While the first year courses are generic in nature, the second year courses (most of which are elective courses) have been specially designed to cater to the energy sector. The first year courses, though generic in nature, are conducted keeping in view their relevance to the energy sector. The Second Year Courses in each Term provide students with a Programme Core subject, Track core electives ( student can choose an Energy Track or an Infrastructure track) and then students also have Free electives. The second year curriculum providea lots of options in terms of subject which a student can pursue based on his interest in Energy sector.Since the Energy sector is global in nature in all aspects; a global business perspective is being kept in view in all the course offerings.

Curriculum

To complete the credit requirements of the entire programme, students take about 47-50 courses together in the first and the second year. While the first year courses are generic in nature; the second year courses (most of which are elective courses) have been specially designed to cater to the need and requirements of energy sector. Since the energy sector is global in nature, all the courses focus on a global business perspective.From Second year onwards in every Term students have Programme Core,Track Electives(Energy/Infrastructure) and Free Electives. Course Curriculum is re-designed each year aligning it with the Energy Management requirements of Industry after extensive discussions with Industry,Academicians and the SPM PDPU Alumni's.

School of Petroleum Management tries to ensure that the MBA graduates receive suitable placements. In this context, because of its lineage the School is uniquely placed to leverage on the industry network developed on its own and the GSPC group.

In this direction, a placement cell engages in constant interaction with the industry by way of seminars, summer internships, research projects, and on-campus & off-campus initiatives.
