A new building opened in 2005, replacing the original, which opened in 1957. The new two-story 38577 square feet (3,583.9 m²) building cost $10 million to construct. The public facilities include 66 computers. There were about 37,000 card holders, about 5,000 of them were new card holders.

According to the 2005 Annual Report, Schlow had about 291,000 visitors and about 592,000 books in circulation.
