Salvadoran hip hop is hip hop and rap music that comes from El Salvador
. It is a relatively new style of music, when groups like Pescozada
and Mecate
formed in the late 1990s, which have grown to be acclaimed and famous throughout the world. Because of the poverty, growth, war, bloodshed, dictatorship, gangsterism that El Salvador has survived, the new generation of hip hoppers is said to have a different perspective of the world; they do not usually rap about stereotypical hip-hop topics (such as prostitutes, money, cars, drugs, and sex), but about youth's problems, and current politics.
