Before joining City University in 1977, Roy Batchelor worked as a government scientist, and as a forecaster at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research. Professor Batchelor's research focuses on economic and financial forecasting, rationality and behavioural finance, and risk management in financial markets. Earlier in his career, he authored books and journal articles on broader issues of industrialization and trade, exchange rate policy, protectionism and monetary policy, and the construction and interpretation of consumer and business surveys. Professor Batchelor has been Associate Editor of the International Journal of Forecasting. He has acted as consultant to a leading firm of London stockbrokers, an international market research organisation, the London International Financial Futures Exchange, the World Gold Council
