Rotary-arm stretch wrappers are systems to deliver stretched film onto a load by means of supporting a film roll within a carriage attached to an arm, rotating around a stationary load. The film carriage is able to move along the arm vertically, moving the stretch wrap
up and down relative to the load. Stretching of the film is achieved by creating tension between the load and the roll by applying a brake to the feed roll.
More sophisticated systems also stretch the film prior to it leaving the film carriage, this is called pre-stretch. Pre-stretch is achieved either by a fixed/variable gear ratio or even more sophisticated systems, such as a hydraulic ratio prestretch.
