 that aims to create a sustainable food system in California by 2030. In 1999, a group of foundations came together to explore the challenges facing the modern industrialized food system. They sought to maximize the impact of their philanthropy in pursuit of healthier food and farms. They issued a 2000 report, Roots of Change, that cataloged the challenges, as well as the emergent responses to these challenges. In 2002, Roots of Change was formed to help define the environmental, social, and economic problems related to food and agriculture in California and to take action that would simultaneously address them.

Mission

Roots of Change brings a diverse range of Californians to the table to build a common interest in food and farming so that every aspect of our food—from the time it’s grown to the time it’s eaten— can be healthy, safe, profitable, affordable and fair.

Projects

Roots of Change focuses its efforts in three areas: convening, scaling change and policy making. The following list some of their projects:
