Woolley was an exceptional wicket-keeper, and had it not been for the fact his career parrelled the great Rod Marsh
he probably would have played more international cricket. When he finally did get his chance to break into the Australian cricket team
due to an injury to Marsh, he was unable to convert his domestic form into international form, and a difficult tour of the West Indies in which he could only score 21 runs was the end of his international career.
He was captain
of the Tasmanian
one-day side from 1982–83 until 1985–86, and although he also captained the first-class side on 28 occasions, he was never officially appointed as Tasmanian captain.
