Originally there were two separate publications, the Post and the Bulletin. The Post-Bulletin's foundation marked the combination of these two in 1925. The Withers family ran the paper from 1925 until Bill Boyne took over in 1979. Now, Post-Bulletin employs 220 people.

The Post-Bulletin is owned by The Small Newspaper Group, which also owns many other news providers in the midwest.

The Post-Bulletin publishes a monthly magazine, Rochester Magazine, which awards "Best (fill in the blank) of Rochester" plaques to local businesses. The Post-Bulletin also publishes Rochester Magazine, Business-to-Business and Agri-News, the largest weekly agricultural news source in the Midwest.
