Political career

Born in Minnesota in 1894, Jorgenson ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature in the 1944 Alberta general election

. He stood as the Social Credit candidate in the electoral district of Pembina. He defeated independent incumbent George MacLachlan

 who finished in last place in the three way race with a landslide majority to pickup the seat for his party.

 would see Jorgenson stand for his second term in office. He increased his popular vote and was returned with a much bigger landslide defeating two other candidates.

Jorgenson ran for his third term in office in the 1952 Alberta general election

. He defeated two other candidates with a large majority to return to office despite losing some of his popular vote from the 1948 general election.

. Jorgenson continued to lose popular support, he faced a tough battle for his riding from Liberal candidate George Schultz. On election night Jorgenson was returned to office winning the three way race with just over half the popular vote.

Jorgenson would run for a fifth term in office in the 1959 Alberta general election

. He would see his electoral fortunes improve as he was returned in his district with the largest popular vote of his career easily winning the three way race.

Premier Manning dropped Jorgenson from cabinet in a shuffle on October 15, 1962. He ran for re-election to his sixth term a year later in the 1963 Alberta general election

. The hustings were crowded with four other candidates challenging Jorgenson for his seat. On election night despite losing some of his vote, Jorgenson held his seat easily. The opposition vote was heavily divided with Jorgenson holding a large majority.

Jorgenson retired from provincial politics at dissolution of the assembly in 1967.
