 in 1909, and was commissioned in 1911. He was Commanding Officer of the destroyers in 1914-15, the in 1919-20, and the , and in 1921. He was Commanding Officer of the destroyer from February 1927 to March 1928. Coman served as District Communications Officer of the 14th Naval District based at Pearl Harbor
