.. He is the middle child of Susan and Bob Pannell. Rob has an older sister Genevieve and a younger brother James.

Rob attended Smithtown High School in Smithtown, NY. Upon his graduation Rob attended Deerfield Academy for a post-graduate year. From Deerfield, he entered Cornell University where he currently attends.

He is a three-time All-American and is the reigning two-time Ivy League Player of the Year.

He has been nominated for a 2011 ESPY Award from ESPN in the category of Best Male College Athlete. He is one of five finalists in the category for 2011 and the only Lacrosse player to ever be nominated.
