Inc., which is the world’s second largest gold producer based on market capitalization. McEwen followed his father into the investment industry and also developed a passion for gold.

In 1990 McEwen stepped into the mining industry, where he transformed Goldcorp from a collection of small companies into a mining powerhouse. Since 1993, when McEwen started re-structuring Goldcorp, its market capitalization has grown from $50 million USD to over $8 billion and Goldcorp's share price has increased at a 31% compound annual growth rate.

Rob believes that management should be as personally invested in a company as its shareholders, and as such he owns 20% of US Gold Corporation, 30% of Minera Andes Inc., 27% of Lexam VG Gold Inc.'s shares, and receives no salary.

On June 14th 2011 Mr. McEwen announced that he intends to merge US Gold and Minera Andes to create a high growth, low-cost, mid-tier silver producer focused in the Americas. The merger is expected to be completed in the fall of 2011. The objective is to build a precious metal company that can qualify for the S&P 500 by 2015.
