Alderman is perhaps best known for his work in the breakthrough Americana band, "Bigger Than Dallas", which he formed in 2002, but in reality, Alderman had many fans prior to this because of his work in the Christian alternative rock band Typical Sloan. Typical Sloan was the beginning of life on the road for Alderman, and he toured with the band for several years as the primary singer and songwriter.

It was in 2002 that Alderman made his return to the music scene by forming Bigger Than Dallas. It was Bigger Than Dallas which afforded the world the opportunity to experience Alderman's beautiful, down to earth music. Taking his cue from writers like Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Tommy Chatfield and Matthew Sweet, Alderman penned beautiful songs about life, love, and loss. The band began touring and quickly grew a large following throughout the Southeastern United States. Critics loved the group, and Alderman's melancholy lyrics. "Austin", which was recorded on Bigger Than Dallas's 2005 full length record Cupid is A Dirty Liar, is considered by many to be definitive of the Alt-Country genre. Sadly, the band broke up soon after the release.

In addition to the music that he made, Alderman is also well known for his quirky, thought-provoking articles, written for a variety of magazines, newspapers and online publications. Writing on subjects such as faith, pop-culture, and politics, Alderman has found a broad, loyal readership. He has been a contributing writer for Night Times Magazine (now Night Times online), The News Underground, Relevant Magazine and many others. His weekly musings are read on average by 5,000 or more readers and can be found online at http://www.robalderman.net www.robalderman.net
