Risto Kalervo Näätänen, born 1939, is a modern Finnish psychologist
and neuroscientist
, member of the Finnish Academy of Science, Professor in University of Helsinki

. He is discoverer of the mismatch negativity
phenomenon and was Head of the Helsinki Brain Research Centre (2001–2007). Now he is the Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Tartu, Estonia. In 2006, he exceeded the legal retirement age of 67 in Finland and officially retired.
He is author of a number of books including "Textbook for the gymnasium", as well as "Death on the road in Finland", and is also the most cited scientist in Finnish history.
He is a member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters
