Background and composition

Nimal Mendis wrote the song specifically for Victor Silva after hearing him sing on the Sooriya Show. Mendis' draft of the lyrics was completed in English and translated to Sinhala by Augustus Vinayagaratnam. Silva suggested 12-year old Nirasha Perera to accompany him on the duet.

It was recorded in 1979 at the Joe-Neth studio under conductor Sarath Fernando. Nirasha was joined by children from Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya, Borella on the chorus.

We were surprised to see this mistaken information, "Ran Tikiri Sina" was written by Augustus Vinayagaratnam at his Panadura house. I'm writing this to do justice to my deceased father who won two awards for writing this beautiful Sinhala song. Nimal Mendis provided music for ths song. This song was sung by children from Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya.

He also wrote the song "Ganga Addara" that was sung by Vijaya Kumaratunga.
