. It was named by Griveaud in 1975. In 1998, the name was inadvertently used again for a fossil species of Mesozoic

, Rahona ostromi, by Catherine Forster and colleagues. When they discovered that the name had already been used by Griveaud, they re-named the fossil Rahonavis
