The Purple Turtle is the name of a group of burners, mostly visual and performance artists as well as engineers and photographers, that is based in San Diego. Collectively known as 'purple turtlers,' they create a camp that provides a large public 'chill space' known as the Purple Turtle Catnip Lounge at Burning Man

Also known as PTCL, the Purple Turtle Catnip Lounge is a 1500 sq ft (139.4 m²). decorated shade structure designed and built by Purple Turtle. It was originally known as the Purple Turtle Playasylum when it made its first appearance at Burning Man 2004. It took the name of Purple Turtle Chill Zone when it made its debut at Fuego de los Muertos

A purple turtle is a fun thing to say especially when saying it with an accent and is used to name and trademark several businesses including a nightclub and a mechanic dealership. Although there is no actual purple turtle that is known to exist.
