The Princeton Packet Inc., is also the publisher of 11 paid community newspapers, seven free newspapers, a monthly magazine and a series of local-news-based websites. The paper was purchased by former Wall Street Journal editor Barney Kilgore in 1955. , the Packet's circulation is approximately 7,600. The company's products serve more than 40 municipalities in the following New Jersey counties:
Mercer, Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon, Monmouth, Burlington and Ocean County.

In January 2009 the Packet website *www.packetonline.com became *centraljersey.com

It was announced in November 2011 that the Princeton Packet is for sale. Interest in buying the company has been expressed by General manager Brad Koltz.
