Season 2
The series later underwent a significant overhaul for the program's second season, where it was retitled
All New Pound Puppies. Several of the characters were given very different backgrounds, appearances and personality traits. For example, Bright Eyes was significantly younger and had updated clothing. Nose Marie had changed as well. She dropped her strapless purple dress and flirtatious manner with Cooler in favor of a 1950s sitcom style mom dress with apron, becoming a surrogate mother to Whopper, Bright Eyes and the rest of the puppies. However, Nose Marie did retain the roots of her southern belle style and her manners. Howler's personality didn't change, but he became more AWOL in this season. Cooler, Whopper, Katrina, Brattina (who started wearing a jacket) and Catgut remained the same. Holly grew longer hair and wore sneakers and jeans (wore shorts in season one). And Captain Slaughter no longer appeared in the series. The
Pound Puppies Pet Care Corner that would appear at the end of the show was also removed from the series. Most significant of all however, was that the Puppy Pound was now owned by Katrina Stoneheart who treats the Puppy Pound like (and has the appearance of) a prison, and now seeks to lock up Cooler and the gang forever. No explanation is given as to how Katrina ended up taking over the Puppy Pound from Holly or why she doesn't shut it down like she intended to do in Season 1. In fact, neither Katrina's intentions of shutting down the Puppy Pound or Holly's previous ownership of it are ever mentioned in Season 2. It is possible that the two seasons are somehow not connected but this is unknown.

Holly tells Lucy and Rusty that everything will be all right, when Katrina shouts at Holly to get away from Lucy and Rusty. To add salt on the wound, Brattina and Catgut arrive on their Cap-o-Copter to chase Lucy and Rusty to the cages. After Katrina, Brattina, and Catgut leave, Holly reassures Lucy and Rusty not to worry. A trap door opens and Lucy and Rusty slide down into the Pound Puppies' secret headquarters. Lucy then faints. As the Pound Puppies find Lucy and Rusty, Lucy explains to the Pound Puppies that she is expecting baby puppies. Cooler and Nose Marie then wheel Lucy to bed. Bright Eyes and Whopper were curious about one thing: where do puppies come from? Later, they asked Cooler about the origin of puppies. Cooler tells them, in song, about
the birds and the bees"The birds and the bees" is an English-language idiomatic expression that refers to courtship and sexual intercourse, and is usually used in reference to teaching someone, often a young child, about sex and pregnancy...
. Afterwards, Bright Eyes and Whopper thought that "Birds and Bees" meant that puppies come from honey made by bees and went to the kitchen to find honey. Meanwhile, Holly and Nose Marie are by Lucy's bedside. Lucy tells them that she wants a dog food and ice cream sundae with chocolate syrup, limburger cheese, coconut, ketchup, gumdrops, dill pickles, cherries, and beef gravy. After Nose Marie served the dog food and ice cream sundae to Lucy, Lucy ate the whole thing in one bite. Holly and Nose Marie were caught off guard by Lucy's appetite, knowing that "She was hungry!" After Holly went to the kitchen to get whip cream for another dog food and ice cream sundae, she finds that Bright Eyes and Whopper were looking for honey because of the "birds and bees." Holly then explains to them that the birds and bees were a myth, like the stork. She also tells them that the stork brings babies down the chimney. That night, Lucy is in labor and Cooler, Holly, Nose Marie were informed by Rusty that the puppies are expected to be born. Meanwhile, Bright Eyes and Whopper rush outside to find a "stork", which is actually a weather vane, on the top of Katrina's house. They climbed to the top, unaware that Cat Gut and Brattina were on to them with their Cap-o-copter. Bright Eyes and Whopper fell down the chimney and into the living room, only to find a jar of honey and Katrina. Katrina grabs a pillow and Whopper accidentally spills honey on her, covering her with honey and feathers. While Bright Eyes and Whopper make their escape, Brattina's Cap-o-copter accidentally grabs Katrina and the chase resumes outside. After putting down Katrina, the Cap-o-copter had Bright Eyes and Whopper cornered, but not before Cooler rescues Bright Eyes and Whopper in time. Back at the headquarters, Bright Eyes and Whopper told the others that they were confused about the birth of puppies. It was then that Cooler and then others decided to show Bright Eyes and Whopper where puppies come from. As the camera cuts to the door, Lucy gave birth to 3 little puppies. The camera then cuts to Cooler and others, with Rusty, a proud father, Lucy, a happy mother, and three adorable puppies.
Part Two: Pups on the Loose- A sequel to
Where Do Puppies Come From?. At the Pound Puppies' Secret Headquarters, Rusty and Lucy asked Cooler and Nose Marie to babysit the puppies while they were going to find their bones. As soon as Cooler and Nose Marie accepted, a whirlwind appears and sends Cooler, Nose Marie, Bright Eyes, and Whopper in a spin. The whirlwind is actually Rusty and Lucy's triplet puppies, Candy, Andy, and Mandy, and Rusty tells them to stop. Candy, Andy, and Mandy revealed that they were fighting with each other. Lucy informs them that she and Rusty will be outside finding their bones and the triplets make their promise to be good. However, as Lucy and Rusty, with Cooler, leave via Pupscalator, the triplets immediately glare at each other and their fight resumes. While Cooler escorts Lucy and Rusty to the safest exit, Katrina was demonstrating the Roveroper, an invention that uses a rope to catch dogs, and uses Brattina as her test subject. After Lucy and Rusty left, Cooler notices Katrina and her Roveroper and gives chase. Cooler gets away afterwards. Back at the Pound Puppies' Headquarters, he noticed that Candy, Mandy, and Andy were still fighting with each other and as soon as they're finished, "they fight some more." Nose Marie came up with an idea that, with Candy, Mandy, and Andy's help, the gang should plan a surprise party for Rusty and Lucy. First, Bright Eyes and Whopper helped Candy, Mandy, and Andy with the decorations. The decorations were a mess, thanks to the triplets' fighting. Later, Nose Marie asks them to help her bake a cake for Lucy and Rusty. The triplets were too busy fighting over who should lick the spoon. The triplets rush outside and the Pound Puppies rush after them, only to find Candy, Mandy, and Andy in danger of getting caught by Katrina and her Roveroper. Cooler saves the day by distracting Katrina while Candy, Mandy, and Andy make their escape. Later, despite almost getting caught, the triplets were still fighting over the spoon incident. Holly came up with an idea that the gang should head to the Hall of Puppy Power in order to resolve the triplets' fighting. Later, Cooler and the gang tell the triplets that puppy power will show them a new master if they think hard. However, the triplets' fighting got the better of them, for they have broken puppy power. After Cooler informs them the they'll each be living separately, the triplets were shocked and revealed that they can't stand being without each other. Cooler then tells them that if they promise to get along, they will find a new master together. Candy, Mandy, and Andy finally decided that they should not only get along with each other, but also live with a new master, whether a boy or girl. After Lucy and Rusty returned, they learned that the triplets finally stopped fighting and puppy power returned to normal. Later at a farm, Lucy, Rusty, Candy, Mandy, and Andy are living with their new masters while on the top of the hill, The Pound Puppies know that, according to Cooler, "When it comes to teamwork, we Pound Puppies are a winning team."

Episode 20: Good Night, Sweet Pups/The Rescue Pups-
Part One: Good Night, Sweet Pups- The episode starts in Whopper's dream, where Whopper is king of his own kingdom. He meets up with Cooler and picks dog bones with him from a tree. The tree suddenly turns into a shadowy monster with red eyes. The monster grabs Cooler and traps Whopper, warning him that "there's no escape, little doggie!" The camera dissolves out of Whopper's dream, where Whopper is whimpering and howling. Awoke by the noise, Howler and Bright Eyes are concerned that Whopper is crying in his sleep. Meanwhile, after Cooler and Nose Marie delivered a puppy named Toby to a boy named Henry, they hear Whopper howling and ran back to the Pound Puppy Headquarters. Whopper's howling even wakes up Katrina Stoneheart, who vows to get even with Whopper for disturbing her sleep. Back at the Pound Puppy Headquarters, Whopper wakes up from his nightmare and tells everyone that "something" was after him. Cooler suggests that they should solve Whopper's nightmare problem at the Hall of Puppy Power. With the aid of Puppy Power, Cooler and the gang fell asleep and the camera dissolves into Whopper's second dream. Inside the dream, they discovered the conviences Whopper has in his dream: A fountain complete with dog bones, a bed to sleep in, and a cat to chase. However, their discovery is cut short by Brattina(In the form of a spider), Katrina(In the form of a witch), and Catgut(In the form of a giant cat). It wasn't long until the Pound Puppies are face-to-face with the same monster from Whopper's previous nightmare. Now that the Pound Puppies knew that the monster was none other than Whopper's fear of the dark, they immediately evacuated out of the nightmare and back into reality with Puppy Power. After reassuring Whopper that the dark is nothing to be afraid of, Cooler and the others head to the basement of Katrina's house. Later, Katrina, Brattina, and Catgut, in their pajamas, are seen outside looking for the Pound Puppies. They immediately spot the Pound Puppies by the cellar door and hide in the basement. As the Pound Puppies head down into the basement, Katrina, Brattina, and Catgut surprised and caught everyone except Whopper, who rushes out of the basement while Katrina calls Doo-Dah Doggie Delivery Service to ship the rest of the Pound Puppies to
Antarctica. After discovering Katrina's plot, Whopper heads back into the dark basement. With the help of his friends, Whopper was able to conquer his fear of the dark and free the rest of the Pound Puppies. They then hide and, after Katrina arrives in the basement, give her the same surprise she gave them earlier and put her in a bag. Moments later, a deliveryman from Doo-Dah Doggie Delivery Service arrives. Mistaking Katrina inside the bag as the Pound Puppies, he takes the bag and ships her to Antarctica, where she sneezes from

Episode 24: Garbage Night: The Musical- The only musical episode ever produced. It was nighttime at the Haven House Children's Home, a girl named Melissa was wishing for adopting a puppy ("Someone Somewhere"). At the Pound Puppies Headquarters, Holly arrives to take the Pound Puppies out for dinner because of their hard work. The Pound Puppies then got dressed for dinner and went with Holly out the headquarters and out of the pound ("Putting on the Dog"). Meanwhile, Katrina turns her van into a garbage truck, hoping to capture some garbage-loving dogs and to get even with the Pound Puppies("Mutts Drive Me Nuts!"). Holly and the Pound Puppies arrive at the entrance of the Pets Are People Too Restaurant, where they serve only healthy food, but Whopper prefers to eat junk food. As they were about to go in, a poodle stops them and asks them for someplace else to eat. The poodle then escorts the gang to an alley, where dogs eat nothing but garbage all the time. The poodle and his two partners reveal to be employees of the self-proclaimed Canine Cafe ("At the Canine Cafe"). Then, out pops a dog named Scrounger, who really loves eating garbage. Seeing Scrounger's stomach ache, the Pound Puppies and Holly knew that Scrounger, along with the three employees, are "Junk-Food Junkies". They then offered the "Junk-Food Junkies" to come to the Puppy Pound for a new home and healthy food. However, Scrounger declines the offer and reveals his passion for eating trash ("I'm Just a Junk-Food Junky"). Unbelievably, even Whopper approves the whole idea about eating junk food. Meanwhile, Katrina reveals her plot to get even with Cooler and his friends. She even dreams of turning them into a fur coat.("I'm Going to Lock those Mutts right up in my Pound"). She orders Brattina to unleash the garbage smell to lure Scrounger, Whopper, and the "Junk-Food Junkies" to the van and capture them. A moment later, Whopper, Scrounger, and the other "Junk Food Junkies" are inside a cage. A trap door opens and the five "Junk-Food Junkies" slide down into the Pound Puppy Headquarters and land in some desks. The Pound Puppies taught the "junk-food junkies" how bad junk food can be. With Howler's Pup-o-Scope, they demonstrated how healthy foods can help their bodies and how junk food can ruin their bodies ("On the Inside of your Outside"). Horrified, Whopper, Scrounger, and the other "Junk-Food Junkies" pleaded to Cooler and the others to help them become healthy. In no time at all, Scrounger, Whopper, and the other three dogs were no longer "Junk-Food Junkies". At the Hall of Puppy Power, Scrounger and his friends wished for a loving master and Puppy Power revealed Melissa and her friends at the Haven House Children's House ("Someone, Somewhere Reprise"). Later, Holly, the Pound Puppies and the others tiptoe out of the pound, only to be spotted by Katrina, Brattina, and Catgut. Cooler and the gang immediately started running throughout the city ("Let's Start Pounding"). While Cooler distracts Katrina, Brattina, and Catgut, Holly and the others escort Scrounger and the other former "Junk-Food junkies" to safety. That morning at the Haven House Children's Home, Melissa and the other children find Scrounger and the others, knowing that her wish came true. As Melissa offers Scrounger a lollipop, Scrounger declines the lollipop. He then promises he'll never eat junk food ever again now the Pound Puppies helped him saw the potential dangers of eating junk food ("I'm Just a Health Food Hounddog").

Critical and box office reception
The film was panned by critics, and poorly received at the box office. Shoddy animation, character inconsistencies, and a color palette that differed from the show's were among the chief complaints. The movie was also not part of the show's continuity.
Fans were also confused by the apparent romantic pairing of Nose Marie and Cooler, which contradicted events that had taken place in the first season of the series. In addition, the movie is set in the 1950s with the story being narrated by Whopper, who in the present day is now an older dog who tells the story to his nephew and niece. Also, Katrina and Brattina Stonehart, along with Catgut, do not appear at all in the movie.
