Background and general information

Port Colden is a recovering town, trying to clean its old ways. Strides have been made in local law enforcement and it is beginning to look like a suburban town. One place that you can see Port Colden's stride for change is the elementary school. Once one of the worst in its area it is now able to control its attendance and reduce overcrowding due to more schools being built in the area. Port Colden has also encouraged increased agricultural activity. This widespread activism by the county's government has reduced the amount of gang-driven criminal activity.

Demographics

Port Colden has experienced a decrease in population due to the reduced availability of low-cost housing. The population was around 4,765 in 1999 and is now around 2,550. Most foreclosed housing has been acquired by the county and razed in an effort to reduce poverty percentage and criminal activity. Port Colden's population is about 72.67% white, 23.64% African American, 3.6% Latino or Hispanic, and 1.3% Asian. These numbers have changed rapidly during the last eight years.
