Academic Attainments

The school's daily schedule consists of a modified block schedule with three traditional days per week (Monday, Tuesday, and Friday) and two "block" days (Wednesday and Thursday) allowing for a total of seven classes.
Ponderosa High School houses the agriculture

 program for the district. Ponderosa is a California Distinguished School and has met their API consistently over the past three years. They have also held first place in the El Dorado County Academic Decathlon for the past 18 years.

Sports

Ponderosa High School offers many sports programs, including Football, Volleyball, Soccer, and Track and Field. Ponderosa is in the Division I power house Delta River League.
  • Wrestling: Ponderosa wrestling is co-coached by Tyson Escobar and Soren Murphy. Escobar is an alumnus of Ponderosa and is also the athletic director. The Ponderosa Bruins are 19 time SJS Team Section Champions and 36 time league champions.
  • Soccer: Greg Close and Don Augiar coach the men's JV and varsity soccer teams respectively. Coach Spangler also coaches the varsity girls' team, which in the 2007-08 school year, made a championship game appearance. Greg Close also received the Coach of the Year title from Capital Athletic Soccer Academy.
  • Football: Ponderosa High School's head football coach is Jason Tenner, who played for the 49ers as an offensive tackle. They recently broke their losing streak to Oak Ridge High School

     in the 2007 and 2008 season taking back to back Sierra Valley Conference titles. Along with that they also won the first conference championship in 25 years, and advanced into the Sac-Joaquin Section's semi-finals in the playoffs.
