Middle School

Lakeside Middle School (LMS) is a three-year middle school in the borough of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, United States, as part of the Pompton Lakes School District. The school had 379 students enrolled in the 2007-08 school year. The school is located on the corner of Lakeside and Van Avenue, just south of the Pompton Lake.
The outside of the school is an example of late 1960s modern architecture. The building’s first school year was in 1968.
As of the 2005-06 school year, the school had an enrollment of 418 students.
The school was the 3rd-ranked public school in New Jersey in the Schools to Watch 2008 report. In 2007, it ranked 7th in New Jersey.

Awards and Recognition

In New Jersey Schools to Watch's 2008 list, Lakeside was rated highly on the list. The Schools to Watch committee visited the school in May 2008 and again in January 2009.

Academics

At Lakeside Middle School, 6th and 7th Graders take five academic classes. These are:

Also, Lakeside's award-winning Practical Arts system teaches the students 5 classes in 15-day periods. These are:

Each period is 40 minutes and has a 9th period quiet study. Most students in 8th Grade also must take a foreign language (German, Spanish, or French). Due to this, they do not have a quiet study unless they are accepted into one English class instead of a language arts class and a reading class.
