History

The village was incorporated in 1848, setting itself off from the Town of Pike.

In March 2008, voters in the village agreed to dissolve the village and become an unincorporated community, or hamlet, in the Town of Pike. The reason for the disincorporation was the loss of both population and industry.

The racial makeup of the village was 96.34% White, 2.09% Native American, 0.79% Asian, and 0.79% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.26% of the population.

In the village the population was spread out with 34.0% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 103.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106.6 males.

Future

A resolution has been drafted to allow for the dissolution of the Village of Pike. A study is underway to try to determine the effects this would have on the town, and how it might affect public services in the area, including fire protection and water service. A public vote was held on March 18, 2008 and passed 31-5. The official dissolution took place on December 31, 2009.
