PCCP hosts the RSC publication, Highlights in Chemical Science.

Owner societies

PCCP is run by an Ownership Board, on which all the member societies have equal representation. The sixteen participating Societies are: Deutsche Bunsen-Gesellschaft für Physikalische Chemie, Institute of Chemistry of Ireland, Israel Chemical Society, Kemisk Forening, Koninklijke Nederlandse Chemische Vereniging, Norsk Kjemisk Selskap, Polskie Towarzystwo Chemiczne, Real Sociedad Española de Química, Royal Society of Chemistry

Subject coverage

PCCP publishes important new research in the areas of physical chemistry, chemical physics and biophysical chemistry.

To be suitable for publication in PCCP, articles must include significant new physical insights; this is the prime criterion that referees and the Editors judge against when evaluating submissions.

Routine work and applications of established techniques are not suitable for PCCP.

The subject scope of PCCP continues to reflect a wide range of current research activities in the broad communities it serves. Papers in research areas such as spectroscopy, dynamics, kinetics, statistical mechanics, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, catalysis, surface science, quantum mechanics and theoretical developments play an important part in the journal. Interdisciplinary research areas such as polymers and soft matter, materials, nanoscience, surfaces/interfaces, and biophysical chemistry are especially welcomed whenever they include a physico-chemical approach.

Article types

PCCP publishes the following types of articles: Research Papers (which contain original scientific work that has not been published previously); Perspectives (which are high profile review articles of interest to a broad readership and are commissioned by the PCCP Editorial Board); Communications (which contain original scientific work that has not been published previously and is of an urgent nature); and Comments (which are a medium for the discussion and exchange of scientific opinions, normally concerning material published in PCCP).

Audience/readership

Research workers in the fields of physical chemistry, chemical physics and biophysical chemistry in both academic institutions and industry.

Impact factor

The 2010 impact factor of the journal was announced in 2011 as 3.453, which is a decrease from the value of 4.116 (2009).
