Pemberton was incorporated as a borough by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature
on December 15, 1826, within portions of New Hanover Township
and Northampton Township (now known as Mount Holly Township
). Pemberton became an independent borough c. 1894.

, and 3.06% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.60% of the population.
There were 470 households out of which 35.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.7% were married couples
living together, 15.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.6% were non-families. 26.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the borough the population was spread out with 26.8% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 34.7% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 8.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 103.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.6 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $44,063, and the median income for a family was $48,500. Males had a median income of $34,911 versus $25,474 for females. The per capita income
