and was the second son of Patrick Lynch of Lydican Castle and Agnes Blake. The Lynches and the Blakes were 2 of the 14 tribes of Galway

Being the second son and thus unlikely to have a large inheritance, and possibly because of the effects of the Irish famine of 1740-1741, he left in the 1740s for Bilbao
