PaintCare is a non-profit program created by the American Coatings Association in cooperation with the state of Oregon and officially launched on July 1, 2010 to manage the reuse, recycling and disposal of leftover paint. About 30 collection centers have been established in paint stores across the state with another 60 centers scheduled to open in 2010.

PaintCare is the result of a first in the nation paint stewardship law passed by the Oregon Legislature in August 2009. Paint manufacturers will operate PaintCare with oversight provided by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality

. Costs of the program will be financed by an end-user recovery fee that will result in a cost increase of 35 cents for a 1/2 pint to 1/2 gallon, 75 cents for a gallon and $1.60 for 5 gallons. There will be no fee for amounts less than 1/2 pint. Metro
