Sky Train will feature a 100 feet (30.5 m) bridge over the taxiway that connects the north and south runways, the first location in the world where a train will pass over an airplane.

Phase I of construction, underway since December 2008, will link Terminal 4, the East Economy Parking lot, and the 44th Street light rail station (the latter via a moving sidewalk bridge). Eventually, Sky Train will link to all airport terminals and the Rental Car Center. It will run in a new guideway

. Estimated cost was just over $1 billion in 2005, which is close to the cost of the 20-mile METRO line. Sky Train Phase I is to be completed in 2013; Phase II, which connects to Terminals 2 and 3 is scheduled to be open in 2015, and the entire system should be complete by 2020.
