The railroad began operations in 1986 on former Burlington Northern, ex Great Northern Railway track between Moorhead and Collegeville, Minnesota, interchanging with Burlington Northern. The railroad abandoned the approximately 80 miles (128.7 km) of track between Collegeville and Fergus Falls in 1992.
