in 1979. In 1992, the team added "Junior" to become the Junior Senators or Jr. Senators to prevent confusion with the Ottawa Senators - expansion team in the NHL in 1992-93. The Jr. Senators went to develop collegiate players throughout the years. The best season came in 2001-02, when the Jr. Senators defeated the top-ranked Cornwall Colts 4 games to 1. Ottawa went to appear in the Royal Bank Cup through the "back door" when the Halifax Oland Exports were hosting the Royal Bank Cup.

In 2002, the Jr. Senators made blockbuster deals with the Gloucester Rangers, which resulted in the loss of keys players. In 2003-03, the Ottawa Jr. Senators managed to make the CJHL finals to lose to the Nepean Raiders 4 games to 1. To date, Ottawa has missed the playoffs multiple times and have only won a first-round series once in 2009.

The highest scholarship offer went to Peter Kennedy, who accepted an offer from the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. Kennedy was class of 2006 and is now playing for the Central Hockey League's Tulsa Oilers. More than multiple players went on to accept scholarships from the ECAC (Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association).
