Name and Origin

Norman North High School (NNHS) was formerly named Norman High School North (NHSN). This changed in 2003 when it was decided that Norman North High School was more practical, and was now fully understood that Norman did indeed operate two separate high school

Awards and Excellence

Norman North High School has displayed outstanding excellence in Fine Arts winning Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association OSSAA State Sweepstakes award in 2005 which only three other bands claimed in that year.

NNHS' choral director Tony Gonzalez was named the 2006 Regional recipient for Music Teacher of the Year by the National Federation of High Schools and was the national winner in 2007 for his outstanding efforts. The Norman North Chorale is nationally renowned, winning contests in Chicago, San Diego, Orlando, and New York City, among other places. The Chorale has also appeared on National Public Radio's "From The Top," singing Eric Whitacre's "Water Night".

The National Forensic League chapter at Norman North is one of the strongest in the nation. The chapter has consistently sent droves of students to national tournaments. They have placed in the Top 4 at State Competition 6 years in a row.

In 2008 Norman North High School was awarded the Blue Ribbon award of excellence, one of few high school in the entire state honored with such an award. Only 48 high schools in the country are given this award each year.

, in varsity football for the first time in school history in 2006. North then went on to continue success in football by winning the district championship in the 2007 season, and during the 2008 season was when the Timberwolves were ranked number 1 for the first time in the schools history led by a star studded senior class. North also has a very successful soccer program, they have gone to the 6A state championship 2 out of the past 3 years.
