Halik was born in Melbourne, Australia. He is the youngest son of poor immigrant Greek parents Konstantinos and Dionisia Halikopoulos from Greece. He was raised in Port Melbourne. In his teenage years, Nik re-located to Hollywood, California to study music at the Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood. He performed live and recorded in various bands throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s until departing the music industry to pursue other business interests and thrill seeking adventures.

Among his various expeditions, he was one of the first explorers to dive down five miles and land on the bow of the RMS Titanic. He has summited some of the highest mountains in the world and flown to the edge of space in a Soviet-era built Mig25 to view the curvature of the earth.
