. The population was 369 at the 2000 census. It is a community that was centered around the local coal mines and farming in the early 1900s. When need for coal dropped in the 1950s the town fell back on its farming roots. Mostly farming of corn and soy beans. The current residing mayor is George H. Grindstaff Jr. It is also the hometown of popular disc jockey DJ HaVok also known by his given name Tim Brazel and formally known as DJ DB-1.

The racial makeup of the village was 97.29% White, 0.81% Native American, 0.27% Asian, and 1.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.98% of the population.
There were 147 households out of which 26.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.5% were married couples
living together, 8.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.9% were non-families. 24.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.91.
In the village the population was spread out with 23.3% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 27.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.1 males.
