NSMD can mean:
  • Non-State Market Driven (NSMD) regulation refers to the variety of systems used to regulate the negative environmental and/or social impact of the production of consumer goods. Rather than traditional "command and control" regulation, NSMD schemes strive to use market forces to create shifts in industry.

Notable examples are Organic labeling, Fair Trade certification, and Sustainable Forestry labels for forest products.
