N.O.C. stands for "No Objection Certificate (Issued)" as the studio was started in an industrial estate after taking out all the necessary licenses and no-objection certificates required for creating ultra-loud levels of noise in an otherwise peaceful environment. This is one of the reasons it has survived, and has become the hangout of emerging and established Mumbai rock bands.

The latest venue for N.O.C. is located at 9, New Apollo Estate, Mogra Lane, Off Old Nagardas Road, Mumbai - 400069. It offers 30% more jamming space and will stay open for 24 hours, allowing more flexibility for bands to practice at times convenient to them.

After N.O.C., similar jam rooms have begun to spring up in other cities in India, such as the Jam Hut in Bangalore
