Montepio Geral - Associação Mutualista, is the head of a group of the Social Economy: Montepio Group. Montepio Geral - Associação Mutualista was founded in 1840 by a group of public officials released by Francisco Álvares Botelho, Professor of Accounting Officer and the Board of Public Credit, in order to cope with the absence of a public framework of social support (Social Security's State) in Portugal.

To date, the name adopted was "Monte Pio of Public Employees", Montepio Geral renamed in 1844 when he made the first amendment to the bylaws and constituted the Caixa Económica Montepio Geral.

The Logo

The pelican has always been the symbol of Montepio. In 1840, when he opened the doors of the Monte Pio Public Employees, the pelican was already hunched over their young, which welcomed the first members, and four years later, customers of Savings.
Mythologically, this seabird has always been seen as the epitome of altruism, removing themselves to give their offspring.

The current logo

Colors

Blue - Blue refers to the historical heritage of the brand for its longevity and permanent opening afforded by the wide horizons, but also to the sea, essential to life, counter experiences of the past projects and generous in the future.
