    Historical Significance

    • Peru placed for the fourth consecutive time.
    • Colombia also placed in 1996.
    • Ecuador last placed in 1992.
    • Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Venezuela last placed in 1994.
    • Brazil earned its second title, becoming only the third territory to do so, after the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
    • Ecuador earned its highest placement (first runner-up) up to that point. It would not match or best that placement until Estefani Chalco won in 2011.
    • Mexico, with its second runner-up, matched its highest placement since winning in 1987.
