    Historical Significance

    • Nicaragua, with its first and (so far) only win, became the first and (as of 2011) only debuting territory to win. (Excluding the first international pageant, where Puerto Rico was technically the first).
    • Spain earned its highest placement ever, matching it the following year.
    • Argentina and Ecuador both placed for the third consecutive time.
    • Argentina matched its highest placement ever.
    • Paraguay and Spain last placed in 1989.
    • Colombia, El Salvador and Venezuela last placed in 1990.
    • This was the only year Guatemala didn't participate.
