. The school opened in 1970, serving students residing in southwest Broward County.

There are 2,771 students currently enrolled at Miramar High School, including 1,402 girls and 1,369 boys. Black non-Hispanic students make up the racial majority of the student population with 2,094 (76.0%). Hispanic students are the second largest ethnic group enrolled at Miramar with 440 (16%). The rest of the student population is made up of white non-Hispanic (81 students, 3%,); Asian or Pacific Islander, (97 students, 4%); multiracial (54 students, 2%); other (5 students).

The program has had great success and student retention in the last couple of years. Notably, the program has created the IB Student Council in 2008. The IB Student Council is in service of the IB students. True to its title, the IB Student Council is run by a council of student representatives, and is focused on reflecting the voice of the IB student body. Also MYP council has also been made. The president thou hardworking has not been able to hold up many meetings.Field trips, award ceremonies, and other such events and committees are organized through IB Student Council in order to make the IB experience both enjoyable and more than just academic.

Aviation Science

The Aviation Science Magnet program at Miramar High offers college level aviation courses through the Broward College Aviation Institute. Optional tracks available to students include Flight and Aviation Maintenance Technology that may be taken concurrently with Aviation. This program will prepare students for advanced training in: Air Traffic Management, Aviation Maintenance, Aeronautical Engineering, Flight Meteorology/Weather Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.

Miramar ranked in the top 6% of all High Schools Nationwide

Ten (10) Broward County Public Schools high schools and one charter high school were recognized among Newsweek magazine’s top high schools in the nation in 2009. The rankings are derived by adding up the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests taken by students at a school divided by the number of seniors graduating the same year. This year’s list is based on data from the 2007/08 school year.

Miramar High School is ranked #83 in Florida and #605 in the nation.

 suspended 26 Miramar players and 28 Flanagan players for playing from one to six weeks. In addition, both schools were fined by the State of Florida (Miramar $5,350; Flanagan, $6,800) and neither school was allowed to participate in the 2008 spring jamboree and 2008 fall preseason jamboree.

Miramar's athletic program has been put on administrative probation until the end of the 2009 school year. Any additional violations during this period could result in more penalties, including being expelled from the FHSAA.

Student Establishes First Television Production Program

During the second semester of the 2008 - 2009 academic year, a group of students founded Miramar High's first television production program named MHSTV. The group met after school every day to pre-record the next day's morning news and announcements and then edited them, and uploaded them to the school's website for streaming the next morning. Although they had very little equipment in comparison to similar programs at other schools, MHSTV received great support from the student body and administration. For the 2008 - 2009 year, the program was mostly student-run. For the 2009 - 2010 year the school's administration has incorporated the program into the International Baccalaureate program's Information technology in a global society (ITGS) course. MHSTV is still streamed via the school's website and has made over 120 episodes.

2009 State Championship

 and wide receiver Ivan "Sticks" McCartney along with 6 other team members that tied with 4 records in their divisions.The Head Coach is Damon Cogdell, a former student at Miramar High school, who in three seasons as head coach has led the Patriots to a 33-4 record including an 8-1 postseason run the last two years.

Miramar High under Coach Fred Wilde Sr. established the counties first boys soccer program in 1974. The 1979 boys' soccer team was ranked #3 in the state at one time lead by Mark Schwartz, who later played at Appalachian State. The 1980 and 1986 teams lead by Coach Fred Wilde Sr. won BCAC Championships.
