Mike was with TV-am from its inception in 1983. He began as the station's sports reporter, a job he held from 1983 to 1987, and then moved on to become a co-presenter on Good Morning Britain. From 1987 until the channel's closure at the end of 1992, he presented alongside Anne Diamond

reported that a female viewer had called the show and asked "where is that Mike Morris?". Bosses at GMTV were quoted as saying "We regard this as a tribute to Mike and all the work he did at TV-am". He later made a brief return to breakfast television, where he presented GMTV's Sunday show "Sunday Best" during 1994.

After leaving GMTV, Mike continued to work for the ITV network, presenting on the Yorkshire Television
