Jenkins is a former editor of Poetry Wales and a long-term co–editor of Red Poets. He has taught English at Radyr Comprehensive School in Cardiff

 for nearly a decade. At the end of the last academic year (2008/2009) Jenkins took voluntary redundancy. He now plans to enter into full-time writing by capitalising on experiences gleaned from former pupils. He continues to live in Merthyr Tydfil

, and has done for 30 years. His latest work is a novella for teenagers, The Climbing Tree, which was released on the 15th of February.

Jenkins is an avid Cardiff City supporter and even bought a brick at Cardiff's new stadium. The brick is enscribed with the word "...Why?".
