History

Famous-Barr opened their store in 1981 on the site of the future Mid Rivers Mall. Mid Rivers Mall was finished in 1987 with 2 anchor stores, Dillard's and Famous-Barr, as well as a food court; a 6-screen cinema opened in 1988. The 1990 expansion of Mid Rivers Mall included a new anchor store, Sears. Another expansion of Mid Rivers Mall in 1996 added the final anchor, J.C. Penney. In 1999, Wehrenberg who owned the current 6-screen theater demolished it, and built a new 14-screen megaplex. Due to the acquisition of The May Department Stores Company by Federated Department Stores, Famous-Barr was rebranded Macy's in 2006. In 2011, Borders filed chapter 11 bankruptcy, and vacated Mid Rivers Mall as part of reorganization. BAM! an entertainment store selling DVDs, Blu-Ray discs, video games, CDs, LPs, books and comics; also buys and sells comic books, toys, sport and game cards, collectors' supplies and posters has been reported to be the replacement the former Borders store.
