Lindsay succeeded to the title of Baron Lindsay of Birker, of Low Ground, co. Cumberland, on 18 March 1952. This in turn made Hsiao Li Lady Lindsay of Birker, the first British peeress of Chinese origin in history .

In 2006, Hsiao Li Lindsay published a book called Bold Plum, largely written in 1947, about the war years and her marriage to Lindsay.
