Michael Choi is a professional chartered engineer and has many years experience in project management, design and construction. He is married and has three daughters.

Michael Choi has served as Honorary Ambassador for Brisbane city, fostering ties between Brisbane and Asia Pacific countries, as well as chairing the Sister Cities Committee with the Chinese city of Shenzhen. As president of the Valley Business Association, he helped the Valley business community through the difficult Fitzgerald Inquiry period and was instrumental in creating the safe, vibrant recreational culture enjoyed there today.

He is also involved in many professional and community organisations such as the Housing Industry Association, the Small Business Council of Queensland and was a director of Queensland Ballet Inc.

Michael Choi was praised by all sides of politics for his assistance to, in particular, the people of Ipswich during the Queensland floods of January 2011. Michael Choi opposed legislation to permit civil unions in Queensland on 30 November 2011. As a Chinese Australian, he has demonstrated his striking ignorance of discriminatory legislation in Australia's history.
