On Monday August 1, 2011, he told Curtis Wright on his morning radio show that is broadcast in southeastern North Carolina each weekday morning that he was running. “I, Mike Beitler, am an official candidate for Secretary of State,” Beitler said. “The reason I am seeking the position is because Elaine Marshall has been there fifteen years and she missed part of her job description which is to facilitate business in North Carolina."
