High School Curriculum

MVCTC is positioned to influence economic development in five southwestern Ohio counties (Montgomery, Warren, Preble, Darke, and Miami) by preparing students for the 21st century workforce. Students receive challenging, career-focused education, as well as a rigorous academic foundation. This combination has resulted in an array of innovative applications and knowledge that enable MVCTC students to enter post secondary education or the job market with a high comfort level of competency and to be prepared for the global workforce.

In addition to successful statistics and numerous awards, MVCTC holds a learning culture that is difficult to describe in words. They work together in a partnership with students, parents, associate schools, communities, and business and industry throughout the Miami Valley. The goal of the partnership is to meet the school mission of providing premier educational choices and advanced employment preparation for youth, adults, and organizations of the Miami Valley.

The Miami Valley Career Technology Center is approved and accredited by the Ohio Department of Education and North Central Association of Colleges and Schools as a two-year public joint vocational school offering regular secondary preparatory in school and cooperative education programs.

MVCTC admits students to each career technical program using criteria developed by the staff in cooperation with representatives from partner schools and approved by the MVCTC Board of Education. In our selection process, we try to select those students who we feel may benefit from a career technical curriculum. If a student is not accepted into his/her first choice program, that student may be interviewed to seek out other career program choices. A waiting list is kept for each career program, and students are placed as space becomes available. For more information regarding the MVCTC Admission Procedures, please visit www.mvctc.com/admissionprocedures.

MVCTC prepares students for a seamless transition from high school to college by providing opportunities to earn college credit and scholarship money towards a college education. Several opportunities are offered to students meeting the established criteria for early college options. For more information – and to review the eligibility requirements for each – please visit www.mvctc.com/earlycollegeconnections. (Number of college credits is subject to change)

Dual Enrollment – MVCTC students can receive dual enrollment college credit from Miami University Middletown (Math or Science), or Wright State University (English and Economics). Dual enrollment is not PSEO, but a collaboration between post-secondary and high school instructors to create an offering at the high school level equivalent to college transcripted credit. This saves the student both time and money, and for students prepared for this level rigor, it is a great advantage.

Tech Prep Programs – Tech Prep is a Grade 11 through associate degree program that prepares students to begin a career or complete a bachelor’s degree. Students completing high school requirements of the College Tech Prep program and meeting the scholarship qualifications are eligible to receive a sizeable scholarship to Sinclair Community College. (Some programs offer Tech Prep Programs with Clark State Community College)

Apprenticeship – Apprenticeship opportunities at MVCTC link secondary education, post- secondary education, business, industry, and government together to provide a seamless career path for students. The Apprenticeship program allows you to work and earn a paycheck – while learning skills and earning the certifications that employers want.

Graduation and Diploma

Students earn a Career Passport from MVCTC and graduate from their home school. Upon successful completion of a career program, a student must have good grades, good attendance, and demonstrate competencies in their career program. A student will receive a portfolio, which will display a profile of both professional and personal accomplishments. This portfolio is called a Career Passport.
