. It was built between 1927 and 1932 and has many types of housing typical of those built in the late 1920s by Manchester Corporation.

Places of interest

In the centre of the estate there is a parade of shops. At the most southern part of the estate, there is a field that has been used to host various sporting events including hockey and cricket matches but now this field is merely a place of recreation that has 3 play parks: along the south side of the field flows the River Mersey.

Current situation

Through the years, many of the council houses have been mortgaged and deemed private. However, the estate was recently bought out by Southway Housing Trust which has taken upon itself the improvement and renovation of all the rented properties.
There has been lots of speculation to do with the shopping parade in the centre of the estate. In recent years, it has been subject to massive plans to do with renovation and modernising the area.
It has been confirmed that an organic cafe will be placed in the old butcher's shop on the parade, although nothing of this type has happened yet.

Local news

There was a fire at the local community centre in November 2008. The centre has since undergone construction to fix what was damaged. The centre has now reopened.
