The district has a ratio of 16 students per teacher.

In recent years, the district has faced fiscal problems as enrollment started to decline and a new state formula was implemented in school funding. Voters rejected a $7.5 million budget increase in February 2006. The district has hired a fund raiser, former local television personality Dennis Krause, giving him the title of Community Resource Director.

The district has a 98% graduation rate and 96% of its students go on to higher education. It also has a nationally honored arts and music curriculum. Its football team won state in 2010 against Madison.

Recently, groups have wanted to cut the music, art, and gym specialists and replace them with normal teachers in the elementary schools to save money. An decision on such a controversial plan has not been met.
