. it is on the western bank of Ponnai its near palar(River). it is located near Thiruvalam. And 7 km from Ponnai.

Melpadi once like buffer state between Chalukyas and Cholas. very immense fighting and Raja Raja Chola's grandfather died there. Choleeswara of Arinjaya Chola was built by Raja Raja Chola along with Somanatheeswarar temple in Melpadi.

During the Sangam age the place was under the classification of "Mullai" land. Melpadi means village on the western banks of the river.

Near by small villages which is especially vinayagar temple its located in vinaygapuram.

The history of Melpadi starts from very early period. During the Pallvas it was called as Tunadu under Vanagopadi.
