After joining Nine in 2001, Melissa reported on the road and acted as fill-in presenter of the weekend news before assuming that role full-time in 2006. She is also a reporter with the local show 'Saturday Afternoon'.
In November 2008, Downes was appointed presenter of the weeknight bulletin, replacing Heather Foord
